Make a colour splash this Easter with Smile Style & Pete Cromer
- 12 eggs
- Food grade dye (any colours you like)
- Muffin tin or empty egg carton
- Disposable cups
- White vinegar
- Sewing or safety pin
- Masking tape
Step 1: Boil eggs, roughly 6 minutes for hard-boiled. Alternatively, you can blow out the raw egg by sticking a pin in either end and blowing out the contents (keep to make your breakfast the next day)
Step 2: Place eggs in cold water to stop the cooking process and gently peel them so the whites don’t break apart.
Step 3: Set up disposable cups for dyeing the eggs, one for each colour. Fill each cup with 1 tablespoon of white vinegar (the vinegar helps to set the dye) and roughly 1 cup of hot water, or enough so the egg will be fully submerged.
Step 4: Put 5-10 drops of dye into each cup. This is where you can get creative and mix your primary colours to create other vibrant hues. Mix and match with your Smile Style and Pete Cromer egg cup colours.
Step 5: To create patterns on the eggs, make shapes with masking tape and stick to the eggs before dying.
Step 5: Gently submerge the eggs into the cups and let stand for 10 minutes (lighter colours such as orange or yellow will need an extra 5 minutes)
Step 6: Remove eggs and place in a muffin tin or back in their egg carton to dry.
The dyed eggs work wonderfully as a table decoration for an Easter feast or simply piled in a basket and mixed in with chocolate eggs as a gift.
